History

Construction began on Aintree Golf Centre and Driving Range in 1993, with the 30 Bay Floodlit Driving Range opening in April 1994, and the 9-hole golf course opening in October 1994.  The golf course was designed by Warrington based PGA Professional, Michael Slater.  Since then, a strong community of dedicated golfers take to the course at Aintree every week to tee off in the famous setting where Grand National champions make their name, close to the very track where Grand Prix racing was staged.

As well as the Driving Range and the Golf Course, the Grand National Golf Club also operates from Aintree Golf Centre. The Golf Club is a fully affiliated member of England Golf (which was granted in March 1995) offering golfers recognised handicap status.

Over the past couple of years, Aintree Golf Centre has been working very hard with the local schools and community groups in encouraging juniors into golf. We are registered with the Golf Foundation as a Community Links Centre, which involves working closely with local primary and secondary schools. One of our team, Lewis Espley regularly visits the local primary schools and gives instruction to the children using the Tri-Golf equipment. We then try to encourage children who are interested in golf to visit the Driving Range and develop their golf.

At 3,197yards from the white tees, Aintree Golf Course and Driving Range is one of the longest 9-hole courses in the UK - giving you a small taste of the challenging distance that Grand National horses experience every year in the world's greatest steeplechase in this very setting. As well as the golf course sitting in the centre of the racetrack, giving wonderful panoramic views across the world-famous course, we have designed a challenging but fair test of your golfing ability.

There is no need to worry about the weather. Aintree is one of the best draining courses in the local area, with very few closures due to adverse conditions. We pride ourselves on the fact that the course is played on full tees and greens all year round, with a few exceptions for frosty mornings! With our staff's experience in turf husbandry, we have the ideal foundations for providing an excellent quality golf course for everyone to play.

Although we are a 9-hole golf course, which is perfect for anyone who just wants to pop down on a summer evening and play; we also have different tee markings for the golfing fraternity who wish to play 18 holes. We do advise you ring up to book, as the golf course especially in the summer months can be very busy.

At Aintree we are committed to creating a fantastic golfing experience for everyone that visits us, whether you are playing the course, practising on the range, using the putting green or just enjoying something to eat or drink from the Cafe, we want you to travel home with that feel good factor, and in doing so, we hope to see you again!!
